EduClarity – helping school governors and academy trustees understand and use school data
Providing expert training, support and resources to help school governors and academy trustees use school data to challenge and support school leaders
NEW: Read the latest blog post – 11 top tips for using data to support governance of schools and academy trusts
School governance is becoming increasingly professionalised, and it is critical that school governors are able to use data to challenge and support the senior leaders in their schools. The educational data landscape is complex, and shifting, and it can be hard for volunteers to keep on top of the data available to them, and the areas to focus on to ensure robust data-enabled governance.
This is where EduClarity can help – with many years of experience in school and academy trust governance, with a strong focus on data, we know where to get data, how to make it understandable by governors, and the right questions to ask.
We are developing a range of packages to support governors and trustees, from free guides on available data and inquiry frameworks, to bespoke reports, training workshops, and ongoing support for governors.
Below are details of all the resources that will be available soon – feel free to contact us to find out more, or register your details for updates and more information about each of the packages.
Package 1 - Free article about school data - inquiry frameworks, data-enabled governance and where to get education data
This free article provides a high-level overview of school performance data and the roles and responsibilities of governing bodies and trustees. The article also suggests some example inquiry frameworks that governors may find useful for using data to govern, as well as links to contextual data sources, that help governors to understand the wider context of a school
Package 2 - The above, plus custom school report bringing together publicly-available school performance data with contextual data about the school
There is a host of publicly-available information that can help school governors and trustees effectively challenge and support their school. This custom report provides that information in one document, including performance data, attendance and exclusions, and financial information. Crucially, the report also includes wider contextual informations, such as indicators of deprivation around the school, health, environment, employment, and demographics.
Package 3 - all the above, plus training for your board of governors / trustees on the use of data in governance
There is a wealth of training available for governors and trustees on safeguarding, chairing committees, finance, and other board duties, but very little on the use of data. This 2 hour training session will teach governors / trustees the basics of using data to challenge and support schools, and includes an explanation of available education data, internal data, data language, and things you can and cannot do with data. Training is available over zoom, or in person.
Package 4 - All of the above, plus ongoing support
For some governing bodies, there is likely to be a need for additional support over the course of the year. EduClarity can provide telephone and email support on matters relating to school data. This could be independent advice on data, help with understanding data-related issues, or even help with analysis of internal data.
No package - just a training session
If the support packages are too much, and you want an introduction to school governance, or perhaps a refresher for one or two board members, we'll also be running 2-hour online training sessions for governors and trustees. These will be available from early 2022, and will be structured around the roles and responsibilities around data. Enquire below for full details.
